The course covers topics from the basics of extruders and their configuration, through the chemical and physical changes occurring inside the extruder barrel, to an understanding of extruder dies and instability. Exercises to demonstrate application of the theory in the formulation of a product and the design of the process will be included. Effects will be demonstrated in a plant visit during the second day. The fundamentals of peripheral systems (raw materials pre-processing and preconditioning) are also covered.
